Overall pointscore: Shannon Eckstein 79, Hugh Dougherty 73, Ky Hurst 65, Rhys Drury 60, Alaistar Day 56, Corey Jones 52, Peirce Leonard 51, Nathan Smith 47, Dylan Newbiggin 45, Matt Poole 44.

WOMEN

Round 4: 1st Elizabeth Pluimers (Northcliffe); 2nd Hayley Bateup (Kurrawa); 3rd Alicia Marriott (Mooloolaba); 4th Courtney Hancock (Northcliffe); 5th Naomi Flood (Manly).

Overall pointscore: Hayley Bateup 74, Alicia Marriott 72, Naomi Flood 70, Elizabeth Pluimers 63, Courtney Hancock 61, Kristyl Smith 60, Rebecca Creedy 49, Terri Sullivan 46, Bonnie Hancock 45, Brodie Moir 43.

ALICIA Marriott began the summer by edging out Hayley Bateup in arguably the closest finish in Coolangatta Gold history.

And the scene has been set for the two queens of the surf to renew their rivalry at Sydney in two weeks time.

Kurrawa's Bateup finished second behind Northcliffe's Elizabeth Pluimers in round four of the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Series at Alexandra Headland yesterday, with Mooloolaba's Marriott close behind in third.

It means Bateup holds a slender two-point advantage over Marriott in the overall standings, setting up a grandstand finish in the double points final round at Cronulla on February 21.

In pounding two metre waves that caused bedlam at times, Marriott made her move on the second swim leg and found a timely wave on the final ski leg to keep pace with Bateup and set up a grandstand series finish in a fortnight's time.

"Some of the girls in front of me actually fell off their skis, but then the wave came and I went for it," Marriott said.

"It's very taxing on your body in these conditions, doing leg after leg and trying to hold your breath in these kind of waves.

"I haven't had a lot of practice in those type of waves because it's usually so flat here on the Sunshine Coast.

"It's good the surf picked up again this weekend because it makes it much more exciting."

Marriott said moving during the winter from Perth to the Sunshine Coast is a big factor in links of london charms her strong form.

"I'm not a big fan of flying as it is and flying the day before a race really takes it out of you, both mentally and physically," she said.

After a disappointing performance in round three, Pluimers hit back in the best possible way to keep herself in contention for the series title.

"I was so angry with myself yesterday," she said.

"I made a few mistakes and had a lot of unlucky things happen as well.

"I had a sit down with everyone; even my mum and dad gave me the tough love and said 'you've got to go back out there', so I'm glad I stuck around for today."

In other Sunshine Coast results, Met Caloundra's Rebecca Creedy and Mooloolaba's Allira Richardson finished sixth and seventh respectively.

LAST LYNN STUDENT'S REMAINS RE

They called her their valentine, 19-year-old Britney Gengel, missing since Jan. 12, the day Haiti shook.

On the day of hearts and love, the parents of the last Lynn University student still missing in Haiti finally heard the news from the U.S. State Department that their daughter's body had been found, and she was coming home.

Amid their grief, Len and Cheryl-ann Gengel of Rutland, Mass., had the composure on Sunday to express thanks to those who had helped find her remains in the ruins of the Hotel Montana on a hillside overlooking Port-au-Prince.

"Even though our hearts are breaking, we are so grateful to the men and women who have worked at the Hotel Montana for the past 33 days," the Gengels wrote in a note distributed by Lynn University, where their daughter had been a sophomore.

Britney Gengel had been among 12 students and two faculty on a three-week program the university called "Journey of Hope." It was meant to inspire the students to charity and provide help to Haiti's poor.

They had spent the day visiting an orphanage on the day the earthquake struck.

Eight of them returned safely, because most had been sitting outside by the pool, writing in journals about all they had seen.

Four of their friends, along with their professors, had gone back inside shortly before the hotel collapsed.

The eight survivors clung together and trekked to the U.S. ambassador's home. From there they moved to the U.S. Embassy lawn, and finally were transported to the Dominican Republic and evacuated home via private jet. Meanwhile, the fate of their six colleagues was uncertain and grim.

Days of fearful hope stretched into weeks of anger and anguish as family pleaded on national television for results. The Gengels, who had initially believed their daughter had survived, tearfully demanded the missing Americans not be abandoned to the rubble. Britney, recovered Sunday, was the last to be found.

The school announced an on-campus ceremony celebrating their lives and accomplishments would be held on a date to be determined.

Lynn University President Kevin M. Ross called Britney Gengel "a true inspiration."

"She was a beautiful young woman who gave her life serving others. We will miss her terribly," Ross said.

In their statement, Len and Cherylann Gengel called Britney their valentine, and thanked the many rescue workers and elected officials, including Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., who advocated for their daughter's rescue and recovery.

An hour before the quake hit, Britney had phoned her mother to say she felt she had found her calling in life, after touring the orphanage. She had been so excited about the trip.

"We sat with her before she left and talked about this trip being a life-changing event. We never knew that this trip would change our lives and hers forever," the Gengels wrote.

Other students whose remains have been found include Christine Gianacaci, 22, a sophomore from Hopewell, N.J, Courtney Hayes, 23, of Douglas, Ga. and Stephanie Crispinelli, 19, a sophomore from Katonah, NY.

Two members of the Lynn University faculty, Dr. Richard Bruno, 59, and Lynn education school dean Patrick Hartwick, 53, have also been confirmed dead.

Lodge open doors

FOR the first time in its 100 year history, the Lowood Masonic Lodge will open its door to the public.

Celebrating its centenary this Saturday with a rededication ceremony by the Queensland Freemason grand master Graeme Ewin, the doors to the Lodge will then be open to the public.

Lowood worshipful Clip on charms master Evan Lloyd said it was unique that the lodge had decided to open its doors but that it was an important milestone in Freemasonry history.

"This is to try and dispel the myths that are commonly out there in society," Mr Lloyd said.

He said it was common for people to believe that a Masonic Lodge was a sort of secret men's society, which it is not.

"We are brothers and this is our home. We teach kindness, courtesy, honesty, forgiveness, trust, help, resistance and fairness," he said.

"We are neutral when it comes to religion. We don't advocate religion one way or another. We make a promise we don't slander any religion."

Mr Lloyd said the Lowood replica breitling watches Masonic fraternity was made up of farmers, solicitors, accountants, and people in parliament and were always open to more men joining.

The Lowood Lodge was consecrated on February 22, 1910 after a petition was signed and approved by the Grand Lodge of Scotland.

Lock has the Wright stuff

GLOUCESTER lock Danny Wright is hoping to add to his two England Under-20 caps when they face Ireland at Kingsholm on Friday night.

Thomas sabo charms

Wright, who is currently on loan at Cinderford in National One, made his second appearance for Mark Mapletoft's men in the stumbling win over Italy last week.

That victory - added to the 41-14 win over Wales at Kingsholm - made England the only side with a 100 per cent record in this year's Six Nations, and Wright is looking at it positively.

"From a forward's point of view it was a good overall win, it was a physical game and took a lot of determination from the pack," said the former St Peter's High School student.

"I personally feel there were chances that went begging.

"We definitely need to control the game more, slow it down and let us run the show.

"It's given me a lot more confidence, coming up against teams that are a lot bigger than you and lot faster than you.

"I have that confidence from international rugby. I feel as though I can play against any team, at any level."

Last weekend Wright was back in action for the Foresters alongside replica breitling watches England Under-20s team-mate, prop Shaun Knight, who scored two tries in the 21-20 defeat at Redruth.

Having returned to the Forest of Dean for the second successive season, Wright has had some good mentors in the form of former Cherry and White second rows Mark Cornwell and Rob Fidler.

However, with the pair leaving the club last summer, Wright has had to take on more responsibility for Cinderford this year, and he says the experiences have helped him grow as a player.

"I used to let the pressure get to me, now I just take it in my stride," he said.

"When I am playing at under-20 level it's against guys my age, whereas when I play for Cinderford it's against 25, 30, 35-year-old men, but there's no reason why I shouldn't perform for Cinderford as well.

"They (my club) are always expecting me to perform at my best, which I can't blame them for.

"If I'm performing for England then why shouldn't I perform well for my Clip on charms club? "It can be difficult at times, but, to be honest, when you're away with England the sessions are different than they are at your club.

"They are short and sharp, more intense, but it's managed well so you do get a lot of rest."

Bard is pivotal to Sox success

There are certainly plenty of question marks surrounding the Boston Red Sox.

But the key to their season will be Daniel Bard.

The flame-throwing righthander emerged as the primary setup man as a rookie last season: the late-inning reliever who was able to preserve the lead before turning the ball over to closer Jonathan Papelbon.

Setup men have become very important.

Bard is also seen as a possible replacement for Papelbon in the closer role if Papelbon eventually departs.

Bard, who often hit 100 miles-per hour on the radar gun, was 2-2 with a 3.65 earned run average with one save last season. In 49 1/3 innings, he gave up 41 hits and walked 22 while striking out 63.

The Red Sox have improved an already imposing starting rotation by adding John Lackey and Papelbon has said he will use his late- inning blow-up in the American League series against the Angels as extra motivation this season.

But the Red Sox haven't replaced Jason Bay's bat in the lineup so they won't score Thomas sabo charms as much and that means they will be in more close games.

So they will need their middle relievers/setup men to be solid.

They were stellar in the first half last season but struggled miserably in the second half.

Manny Delcarmen, Hideki Okajima and Ramon Ramirez are back but each of them became an adventure in the second half.

If Bard continues his development, it will take the pressure off the other relievers and maybe one or two of them will put together a consistent season to complement Bard.

They have added Scott Achison, Boof Bonser and Ramon A. Ramirez which could be important since it adds to the pool of available arms out of the bullpen.

Status quo for Patriots on signing free agents

Before the "In Bill We Trust" T-shirts and free agency/draft strategy debates come out, the New England Patriots' blueprint for a return to NFL roost rule may need a revision.

The current stalemate between the NFL and the NFL Players' Association is expected to lead to an uncapped 2010 season, starting with the upcoming free agency signing period.

Without a salary cap, free-wheeling teams like Washington and financially well-heeled franchises like Dallas may go for broke once the free agency starting gun goes off.

The Redskins have already shown a propensity for spending like lottery winners already, so with no salary cap, it's a certainty they'll use up even more ink in owner Daniel Snyder's checkbook. Dallas has both the money and status as one of the NFL's top teams - visibility and success-wise - to attract the top talent among the 235 unrestricted free agents.

The question is how much of a player will New England be? The Patriots certainly have the pedigree, the facilities, the ownership stability, coaching staff and money to snag coveted players. They've shown a willingness to stretch the purse strings for guys like Adalius Thomas and Randy Moss either through free agency or trades in capped years, but have always tried to be money smart.

The guess here is that the Patriots will continue to emphasize getting more bang for their bucks by signing underpriced guys and gambling on under-producing or underrated players on

Banning the guv from a 2nd job

COULD WE AGREE on one little thing? Being g overnor of Virginia is a full-time job.

At least it should be.

Unfortunately, two Virginia governors in the past decade didn't think that the office required their full attention.

During part of his term as governor, Jim Gilmore also served as chairman of the Republican National Committee. Then - having learned nothing from one of his predecessor's mistakes - Timothy M. Kaine foolishly became chair of the Democratic National Committee.

replica tag heruer watches

Dual roles didn't do either of these men any favors.

At last, the General Assembly is poised to stop all this moonlighting from the governor's mansion.

Say hello to HB1273 - a law Virginia shouldn't need. But does.

If it passes, this measure will prohibit the governor from taking outside employment during his or her four-year term and will expressly forbid the state's top gun from serving as a national political party chair. The bill cruised through the House of Delegates this week 64-34 .

Halfway there.

This measure comes courtesy of Virginia Beach Republican Del. Bob Purkey, who told me Wednesday that support for the bill is strong in the Senate.

No surprise there. After all, that chamber is dominated by Democrats and the chief executive right now is Republican.

In an exquisite example of shameless partisan hypocrisy, Virginia's political loyalists cheer when one of their own takes over the reins of a national political party and grumble when their opponents do the same.

Travel back in time with me to 2001, when Gilmore became chief of the Republican National Committee. His fellow Republicans hailed the move as beneficial to the commonwealth. In fact, ABC reported that giddy members of the GOP were predicting Gilmore's new job would "boost the state's clout in Washington."

Democrats, on the other hand, griped that Gilmore already had enough to do.

links of london charms

"Being governor is no small task," the late Democratic Sen. Emily Couric told ABC. "This is a time when our economy has gone south ... and where's our governor? He's campaigning nationally."

Fast-forward eight years and it was Kaine's turn.

On cue, Republican House Majority leader Morgan Griffith speculated that there could be problems with a chief executive "serving two masters," while Democratic Sen. Chap Petersen defended Kaine's decision, telling reporters that "the governor is replica hublot watches a guy with a lot of energy."

Energy or not, if the duties of governor leave enough time for a second job, let's slash the executive salary and take away the mansion .

This is more than a time-management issue. Frankly, it's jarring to hear the governor of the state spouting partisan gibberish around the country.

When Kaine ridiculed Republicans in December, calling them members of the "tea bag party," it was, well, unseemly.

That sort of partisan prattle is beneath the dignity of the office. Kaine was so caught up in partisanship that he'd apparently forgotten that the governor serves all Virginians.

There's no sign that Gov. Bob McDonnell is going to be offered a party chairman
