Youssef Babbou, 49, posed as Bill Clinton's golf partner Dennis Bakke, a casino chain boss and the inventor of part of the Space Shuttle - IDs picked out of Forbes magazine's rich-list.

He rang American Express in the US to report lost credit cards and got replacements sent to London, then picked them up using false IDs.

He then stayed in five-star hotels, hired flash cars, bought Rolex watches and diamonds and spent a fortune in Harrods.

Tunisian-born Babbou was arrested in Paris with 17 driving licences and 25 fake identities.

At Croydon crown court, he admitted getting pounds 66,000 by deception
embroidered patches and trying to obtain pounds 56,000.

Det Insp Roy West said: "In five months, we think he spent over pounds 500,000."
