Death threats made in early morning attack
Three women on their way to Luton Carnival suffered a terrifying early morning ordeal when a man with a pickaxe smashed their car windows while making death threats.
The 50-year-old driver and her two passengers were targeted at the Chalk Hill roundabout near Dunstable at 5.10am on Monday.
A silver new-shape Vauxhall Astra pulled in front of them, blocking both lanes, before the passenger got out and used a pickaxe to attack their blue BMW, smashing the window, windscreen and panels.
The women tried to drive off, but the Astra kept blocking them.

Although they were not injured, the driver has told us she really felt her life was in danger and that she now fells absolutely traumatised and physically sick as a result of what she has been through."
The ordeal came to an end when the attacker returned to the Astra and drove off. Seconds later a blue taxi pulled up and the driver asked if the women were all right, but drove off without leaving his details.
The victims also remember a white Ford Transit van and a blue car behind them.
Det Sgt Regan said: "We know there were quite a few people who saw this but have not yet contacted us - including the taxi driver - but it's essential they do make contact as we can't allow this to happen to someone else."
Police are treating the attack as an opportunistic attempted robbery.
The pickaxe-wielding man is described as about 5ft 10ins tall, stocky with short, spiky ginger or blond hair and wearing a grey T-shirt. Both the driver and passenger of the Astra were white.
They began following the women's BMW as it drove along Billington Road, Leighton Buzzard.

The Astra pulled out of the Sandhills estate and the BMW driver noticed it was being driven erratically and allowed it to pass.
